The department is named after the river Dordogne (472 km), tributary of Garonne.

The former province of the Perigord is now known as the DORDOGNE. Between Paris and Pyrenees, midway between Pole and Equator, its location gives it a particularly mild climate, pleasant in all seasons. It is a land rich in variety, set between ocean, continental and mountain areas, the diversity symbolized by the four colours of the Perigord. The department is named after the river sLot (480 km), tributary of Garonne, and Garonne (650 km).

The Lot et Garonne is characterised by unspoiled landscapes, its history, its lake, and also its vineyards, its delicacies: fois gras, truffle and mushrooms. A blessed little corner of south-west France made up of gently rolling hills, fields of corn and sunflowers, winding roads empty of cars and pretty little towns and villages, where people always have time to talk to you.
