LEGALITIES OF PROPERTY BUYING IN FRANCE
Buying a property is a major decision, whether it is at home or overseas. In the UK virtually nobody would dream of purchasing a home without the specialist advice of a solicitor or licensed conveyancer!
In France the ‘‘notary’’ usually acts for both buyer and seller and although some speak English, most do not. Please also note that the succession laws in France are binding on all owners of property. So if you don’t want the house to pass to your children on your death, you may have to make special arrangements. The notes below give you an abbreviated outline of how the system works.
We therefore suggest that you consider employing a UK property lawyer who specialises in French property law to act on your behalf and guide you through the process.
We are pleased to recommend the services of
Philip Winter Taylor B.A. (Hons) Law
Philip is a fully qualified U.K. property lawyer with over 15 years experience of all kinds of property in France (including working farms and vineyards). A right rarely granted to foreign lawyers. He is regarded as one of the best Anglo-French property lawyers. Philip has offices next to us in Ashford and can be reached at
