The many and varied landscapes of the Pas-de-Calais are so authentique. From the Audomarois marshlands to the peace and quiet of the « Ternois » and « 7 Vallées » dales. From meadows to marshes an atmosphere of complete relaxation and contentment with time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
Parks and gardens open to the public and local craftsmen who are pleased to show curious visitors their talents. Quaint villages in full bloom, chapels, wayside crosses, a twisted belfry, half-timbered farms and the age old forest where only the trees are able to tell its history. The "7 Vallées" and the "Ternois" share a very passionate and preserved heritage so rich in local traditions.
In the region of Saint-Omer, from Aire-sur-la-Lys to Fauquembergues and from Lumbres to Thérouanne come and experience an encounter between nature and history.
Town of Art and History, Saint-Omer is proud of its magnificent gothic Cathedral - an absolute architectural and patrimonial gem.
In the suburbs the market gardeners' houses sit on the edge of the "watergangs", (small canals that criss-cross the marshes), and in the nearby marshlands the herons and crested grebes make the most of this undisturbed natural habitat
Birthplace of the famous authors Abbé Prévost and Bernanos, as well as numerous artists, performers, craftsmen and producers, Les 7 Vallées is an inspiring region.
The country air and lush green landscapes are the ideal place to get away from it all and return to life's simple pleasures.
Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise, Auxi-le-Château and Frévent are all quaint rural towns well-known for their lively markets, local fetes and fairs.
It was in Frévent at a time when machines were taking over from men that the Winternberger company introduced the first combine harvester. The Ternois is also picturesque villages and hamlets, small forests and secluded farms
Some of the costliest battles of World War I were fought here. The Vimy Memorial commemorates the Battle of Vimy Ridge and is Canada's most important memorial to its fallen soldiers. The Pas-de-Calais was also the target of Operation Fortitude during World War II, which was an Allied plan to deceive the Germans that the invasion of Europe was to occur here, rather than in Normandy.
